Sony confirms it will release a Windows Phone this year

For a few days we are hearing that Sony is working on its own Windows Phone which will be coming this year, but there were no official details which can confirm this news. Thankfully now the company has officially confirmed that it is still in discussions with Microsoft for launching its own Windows Phone.

According to Sony’s European mobile chief, Pierre Perron, the company doesn’t want to be a β€œsingle OS manufacturer,” and he also added that:

β€œ[Working with Microsoft] is an interesting proposition for us in the PC environment, and we continue our engagement with them,” β€œWe are exploring this as part of our discussion in mobile space too. One thing is using the platform [Windows Phone] itself, and another is β€˜what can we deliver on top of it’?”

Currently Nokia is the main manufacturer which is well known for developing Windows Phone. But Microsoft is currently trying its best to attract more and more hardware partners, that is the reason the company has even considered to lower the licensing fees for Windows Phone. The new Windows Phone 8.1 update is expected to come in April. Let’s see if we can hear more official details regarding Sony’s new Windows Phone before that.
