Shazam to soon recognize objects

Shazam, the popular music recognition service will soon identify objects, according to a report from Reuters. The company has already raised $30 which it will use to add new members to its team and sign partnerships with publishers and content companies.

“Shazam is already a verb. We want to expand the universe of what you can Shazam. The famous blue button that our users love will remain on the home screen but will be able to do much more.”

Shazam Chief Executive, Rich Riley told Reuters.

The $30 million funding has bought the London based company’s valuation to more than $1 billion. The latest expansion in object recognition will allow the company to Shazam objects like cereal boxes in a store to get in-depth nutritional information, or at a DVD case to buy the soundtrack from your device. At present Shazam lets your recognize a song via their app.
