P72: Huge iPhone clone that runs Windows XP, makes phone calls

Tablets with 7 inch displays are a dime a dozen these days — in China, anyway. A cellphones with 7 inch screens, on the other hand… there’s something you don’t see every day. In fact, I’m still not entirely sure I’m looking at one, even though the 7 inch P72 can make phone calls. That’s because it also runs Windows XP Tablet Edition and has a battery that’s good for about 3 hours of use or 1 day of standby time. I’m also not clear on whether you can receive phone calls in standby, since Windows XP generally doesn’t respond to input in sleep mode.

This Chinese device clearly straddles the line between a smartphone and a tablet PC. It has a 1.2GHz IVA C7-M processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 2500mAh battery. It also has a standard array of ports including mic and headphone jacks, a few USB ports, and a 1.3MP webcam.

While the P72 runs Windows XP, there’s also a very iPhone-like user interface that runs on top of the operating system to make the phone easy to navigate with your fingers.
