Mystery BlackBerry 9980 Smartphone

A BlackBerry design once thought to be fake has resurfaced in what could be hints of either a discarded prototype or a third-party overhaul.

The initial picture releases of BlackBerry 9980 made it look like RIM’s first QNX smartphone but the sources claim that the keybords is made of metal and the limited edition of the device will have diamonds set on it. Overall the device looks “ugly” and the entire layout doesn’t seem to be with pace at all.

BlackBerry phones do run on China Mobile, although the 9980 is running on EDGE (2G) and clearly isn’t adapted to the TD-SCDMA the carrier uses for 3G.

According to the guys over at Engadget, this new BlackBerry device will be a limited edition, and the photos show a prototype of the device.

Do you think that this is the real deal, or is it just some sort of clone that was released just to create a buzz around the Internet but would bomb upon release?
