Micromax has announced that the company’s ultra-popular A116 Canvas HD has sold over 9,000 units online in less than 24 hours after its online launch on Valentine's Day. The company said that nearly 60 percent of the orders came from metros.

The handset is easily one of the most awaited products to launch in India this year and the early healthy sales indicate that the combination of high-end specs and a sumptuous low price has worked for the company. Micromax claims the Rs 13,990 handset is currently being booked at a pace of 25 units per minute.

9000 units of the Canvas HD have been sold within 24 hours of the launch

The Canvas HD has a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and an update to Android 4.2 is expected to come soon.

Other specs of the Canvas HD include:
5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1280 x 720
Dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS
Bluetooth with A2DP
8MP rear camera with LED flash, and VGA front camera
4GB of internal storage and supports microSD card up to 32GB

The company said in its press release, “The data received from our online partner, Snapdeal.com shows that the first lot of the Canvas HD was sold out within 15 minutes of announcing the sale at midnight of February 14. The second lot of 300 units of the phone was again sold out within 15 minutes of the sale at 9 am and the third lot of 1200 phones was sold in 45 minutes with the beginning of the sale at noon on the first day itself. Now we have over 9000 units booked in less than 24 hours and counting.”

Commenting on the sales, Shubhodip Pal, Micromax's CMO, said, “The response from our consumers has been phenomenal and the demand has been increasing every passing minute. After the unprecedented success of the Canvas 2, we are overwhelmed with the customer response for Canvas HD. This is the first time our online sales partners have ever witnessed a digital queue in cyberspace to such an extent for any product.”

Commenting on the sales Tony Navin, Vice President, Business Development, Snapdeal.com said, “This product, one of the most awaited launches exceeded our expectations by a huge margin. We took this live at midnight and we were completely surprised to see all 500 units which we expected to sell in the entire day sold out within 15 minutes of launch. In a category such as mobiles, this kind of pace of sales beats our previous records.”
