Lollipop now running on 21% of Android devices

Google has released its monthly Android distribution update for the month of September. The latest numbers reveal that Android Lollipop is now present on 21% of all Android devices. This is up from 18.1% since last month and 10% in May.

The distribution chart shows that Android 5.0 has grown slightly over last month, from 15.5% to 15.9% while the version 5.1 increased significantly from 2.6% to 5.1%. The previous version of the OS, Android KitKat still owns the larger share of the adoption as it is present on 39.3% of active devices. KitKat was followed by three Android Jelly Bean iterations which contribute to a market share of 31.8%.
Gingerbread is present on 4.1% devices while Ice cream sandwich on 3.7%. Froyo is still included in the chart and is active 0.2% of Android devices. Google does not shows any versions with less than 0.1% distribution. Android’s next iteration is called as Marshmallow and there is no word about it’s official release yet.
