Chinese telecom giant Huawei has had a significant presence in the Indian market since the past few years. However, most of its activities were in the network infrastructure front rather than on the consumer front. Looks like Huawei has had enough of playing its "behind the scenes" role now. The company has announced the launch of a bunch of new phones in the Indian market under two series of mobile devices -'Hangout' and 'Android'

Both the series of phones use Qualcomm's chipset solutions and would be available for purchase in India starting August 1. While Huawei had its handsets in India already - for the CDMA platform, those were made for networks and did not carry the Huawei brand name prominently.

Let us now see what these series are and how they differ.

The Hangout Series includes a range of devices that are feature phones based on GSM/CDMA/UMTS platform. It has mid-range devices to high-end ones as well. The Android series, as is obvious, would be Android based smartphones that range from the affordable to high-end price bracket.

Huawei has revealed details of four handsets already. We expect the rest of the devices too to trickle down in the next few weeks. Here is what we know now.

Two devices from the Hangout series are the U9130 and the C5600. Let's see what they have in store for you.

U9130

This device, aimed at the youth and professionals, comes with support for e-mail and integration with social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. The phone is 3G ready and comes with a QWERTY keypad. There is a front camera for video calling as well.

C5600

The C5600 is a CDMA phone on the OMH platform which means you can use it on any CDMA network in India. This one is more of a multimedia handset with a penchant for music. The phone is ultra slim and like the U9130, comes with support for social networking

As for the Android Series, Huawei has unveiled two devices as of now. The U8300 and the U8500. Let's see what they have for you

U8300

The U8300 is a QWERTY keypad laden device running Android. It too is aimed at the youth and professionals who are on the lookout for an Android smartphone. It comes with popular social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter widgets preloaded. Other features including multiple emailing solutions, support for 3G and multimedia support.

U8500

The U8500 is more of a youth Android phone and for the same reason focuses more on the social networking bit. It is a touchscreen device boasting of a large 3.2-inch display. There is an optical track pad for navigational purposes.

Huawei is yet to reveal the pricing details of these phones but has said that all devices would be priced between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 10,000.
