Indian government now want mobile companies to store text messages for six months!

Indian government has apparently directed mobile service providers operating in the country to store text messages sent or received on their network for a period of six months.

They were currently required to have an archive of these messages only for a couple of days now.

This new development is going to increase the costs of data retention for the companies as texting is hugely popular in India with around 130 and 150 billion text sent and received every month!

And these would also include the millions of spammy texts that have created a nuisance for the mobile users.

There are fears in the market that the government would soon expand this new directive to voice calls as well.
